GW-400 BMR is a medium-early maturity sterile hybrid forage sorghum with the BMR 6 gene. Yield from this hybrid can reach 18-25 tons at 65% DM. The BMR 6 gene found in this hybrid reduces the indigestible lignin by 35% over conventional forage sorghums. GW-400 BMR with this improvement in digestibility and palatability, enables milk and beef production comparable to corn. This hybrid is well suited for dryland or irrigated conditions. The water requirements and inputs are 1/3 less than would be required to produce the equivalent amount of corn. GW-400 BMR is a sterile hybrid producing sweeter stalks with more protein than a hybrid that does produce grain. However, isolation is advised to protect sterility.
